This position creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from provided sketches, layouts, or notes.
Qualified individuals should be experienced in reading and understanding utility or telecommunications cable systems and associated OSP documents with great drawing quality, and speed. Telecom experience is preferred, but training can be provided.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, base-mapping, GIS and layering, fundamental knowledge of Outside Plant, running line, conduit, and cable design for copper, fiber optics, coax, manholes, hand holes, Make-Ready Engineering, and poles (aerial and underground).
A thorough understanding/ experience in the Outside Plant telecom industry, public right-of-way, private easements, existing utilities such as water, sewer, electric, gas, and other underground and aerial utilities.
Knowledgeable in city, county, state, and local municipalities encroachment permits, Traffic Control and specialty permits (e.g., UPRR, Caltrans, etc.), easement right away, and various environmental permits are highly desired.
Must be able to interact with the local municipalities, Telco engineers, and construction/maintenance forces to acquire OSP Records, ICGS, Assessor Maps, map info, AIS, and Construction Prints.
Site surveys, translating field notes to develop and update conduit/ cable engineering design drawings in AutoCAD
Create new OSP network designs.
Develop and issue work prints for OSP Telecom networks.
Collaborate with Field engineers and Construction.
· Drafting clear, and complete drawings with accurate detail that incorporates permitting ordinances, design inputs, sketches, and field notes.
· Create new base maps and post existing system maps from available records.
· Assist with the revision/acceptance of internal CAD work requests.
· Coordinate with other technicians and analysts on various data development, update, and project support initiatives.
· Perform other duties as assigned in engineering, permitting, and construction processes.
· Work with management to schedule work and manage workload to meet customer and Company expectations.
2+ years of Telecom OSP Design/Engineering Experience
Working knowledge of the telecommunications industry standards, practices, and regulations pertaining to the engineering of outside plant facilities
Knowledge of aerial, buried, and underground construction methods and engineering requirements
Knowledge of fiber optic counts, fiber assignments, and splicing schematics in a high-density fiber environment is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of Fiber to the Home and Fiber to the Building is preferred.
Familiar with general permitting requirements for the State Department of Transportation, as well as other states, county, and city permitting agencies
Strong organizational skills and experience with Microsoft applications
Effective communication skills and professional accountability
Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED, Bachelor's Degree preferred in a related industry.
